Happy 2018! Did you do anything fun on New Year's Eve? This year, we had a Roaring 20's party at work and originally I hadn't planned on getting dressed up but then something sparked in me and thank you Amazon Prime - I got all glammed up.
You can't tell in this photo but I felt like I nailed my makeup (dark eye, black skinny brows, pink cheeks, red lips) but I was a bit of a loss at what to do on my nails. I saw some amazing inspiration photos on Instagram but I was running low on time and the majority of my polish is still in boxes right now, so I had to work with limited resources.
I finally decided on wearing JulieG Silver Bells, which is a silver texture polish, and Nicole by OPI Make a Comet-ment which has tiny holographic/rainbow reflective flakes in a clear base. It's similar to China Glaze Fairy Dust but it's more dense on the nail.
So this is what I ended up with. I started with Glisten & Glow base coat, two coats of Silver Bells and the one coat of Make a Comet-ment. I ended up using Glisten & Glow top coat too even though you're not supposed to use a top coat on textured polishes. That's fine with the texture polishes but when I added Make a Comet-ment, my nails just felt tacky and weird. The top coat did not smooth my nails out entirely but I also felt confident that I wouldn't snag myself on my dress.
This photo was actually taken today, 5 days later. I'm pretty impressed by not having tip wear or chips - just some grow out. Because this is a textured polish, I needed a little more effort to remove. I soaked a cotton pad in remover, let it sit on my nail for about 15 seconds, then was able to remove the polish without much effort or scrubbing. It also didn't tear up my nails which made me a happy camper because I'm planning on wearing a creme polish next.
While my polish didn't sparkle much under artificial lights, I had a great mirror ball going on in the sunlight - that being said, it's been 30 degrees and we haven't had much sun so those moments were few and far between. I still really enjoyed this manicure and I'm going to keep Make a Comet-ment around a little longer on my desk.
You can purchase JulieG in Rite Aid stores across the US or shop online at Jesse's Girl Cosmetics which ships worldwide! JulieG sells for $3.99 for a 0.35 fl oz (10 mL).
