The Discover Beauty program, an exclusive initiative of Cosmoprof North America (CPNA), returns for its eighth successful year of matching leading retailers with emerging beauty brands in 2014. Companies from all over the world must be approved to participate in Discover Beauty, ensuring an exclusive array of unique, cutting-edge brands that are sure to be the "next big thing." For these brands, CPNA show organizers arrange pre-scheduled sales meetings and events with important retailers; however, the area is open to all attendees throughout the three-day event. CPNA is proud to announce the Discover Beauty line-up for 2014: Coastal Salt & Soul, Doll Face Beauty, Drunk Elephant, Indie Lee, Karora Cosmetics, LightStim, Manuka Doctor, MD Solar Sciences, Monteil, Qiriness, Skin Nutrition, Skin&Co Roma and True Isaac Mizrahi

The Discover Beauty program is a high-end, curated section centrally located on the show floor combining the best of both worlds: a customized buyer program complete with pre-arranged face-to-face meetings as well as traditional exhibition presentation.  This allows the brands to enjoy the exposure to all attendees at the show, but it also guarantees the face-to-face time with select specialty retail buyers to secure placement into key accounts.

All Discover Beauty brands are automatically enrolled for the 2014 Discover Beauty Award. This award is given to one brand, which is recognized for its creativity in concept, packaging and overall ability to succeed in this competitive retail market. The winner is selected by industry leaders, beauty editors and participating retailers. The Discover Beauty Award winner will be announced on the evening of Sunday, July 13, 2014, as part of a private reception.

Cosmoprof North America 2014: Beaut-E Zone Lineup

Alright YouTubers, I get it. You're taking over the WORLD. Every time Mr. PG and I see a TV ad for a YouTube vlogger (video blogger), we just give each other a look. I'm not all that great on video (seriously, I worked in TV, I can say this) and generally with nails, I missed the video boat. Until I miraculously learn how to be amazing at nail art and can film tutorials, don't expect many PolishGalore videos.

That all being said, this year at Cosmoprof North America, five vloggers will be providing live coverage. I don't know if they will be using the Google+/YouTube live feature where they are on a 5 minute time delay and can take live questions or if they will be recording at the show and uploading later... It will definitely be interesting. I spoke a few years ago about the changing face of social media moving from FourSquare and Yelp to Twitter and Instagram... well now it's moving again to YouTube and Vine. I feel old.  Although I do know who Cassandra Bankson is -  I watched her original skin care video that went viral.

Mark Cuban Named 2014 PBA Business Forum Keynote Speaker

The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) is honored to announce famed businessman, TV personality and Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, as the keynote speaker for the 2014 PBA Business Forum held during PBA Beauty Week. Hosted by Cosmoprof North America (CPNA), PBA Beauty Week is North America's largest, most inclusive beauty event, offering unlimited networking, education and business-to-business opportunities to all sectors of the professional beauty industry. PBA Beauty Week will be held at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, July 13 - 15, 2014.

After graduating from Indiana University, Cuban moved to Dallas, TX and created MicroSolutions, a computer consulting service. He went on to later sell MicroSolutions in 1990 to CompuServe.  In 1995, he and long-time friend Todd Wagner came up with an Internet based solution to listen to Hoosiers Basketball games in Texas. That solution was Broadcast.com - streaming audio over the Internet. In just four short years, Broadcast.com (then Audionet) would be sold to Yahoo for $5.6 billion dollars.  Since his acquisition of the Dallas Mavericks in 2000, he has overseen the Mavs competing in the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history in 2006 - and becoming NBA World Champions in 2011. They are currently listed as one of Forbes' most valuable franchises in sports.  In addition to the Mavs, Cuban is chairman and CEO of AXS TV, one of ABC's "Sharks" on the hit show Shark Tank, and an investor in an ever-growing portfolio of businesses. He lives in Dallas with wife Tiffany, daughters Alexis and Alyssa, and son Jake.

Morgan Taylor: Brand Overview

While out at Cosmoprof North America this year, I had the opportunity to meet Morgan and Taylor of the new professional lacquer line Morgan Taylor. Morgan Taylor is produced by Nail and Hand Harmony, the company that produces Gelish & Gelish MINI. Morgan is the daughter of CEO & founder Danny Haile, and Taylor is the daughter of David Daniel, Nail and Hand Harmony's President. Added family connection - Morgan and Taylor are cousins!

These girls are amazing. You can already see how fashion forward they are - both are college educated and have a passion for polish. (Added fun fact: Taylor has a YouTube channel here)

Morgan Taylor came out of the gate running this summer with 100 core polishes and 5 treatments. They boast a 7-10 day wear & are highly pigmented with only 2 coats needed for full coverage. They are also big-3 free.

The Fall 2013 collection was part of the core 100 polishes and the photo I grabbed was of course, blurry. I did, however, get a shot of this massive display that I believe held all 100 colors and some of their treatments.

Taylor was especially excited about this color that she created - Something to Blog About. (Only in the bottle, not the color on my nails.)

The 5 treatments include a matte top coat which is all the rage right now among polish companies.

The Royal Life collection (press release here) will be launching November 1st and includes 6 brand new glitters.

Morgan Taylor has also been teasing the new Glam Rock collection on their Facebook, which will be launching in winter.

For salons, they offer this beautiful 48 piece wall display to showcase Morgan Taylor on the wall.

Now I'll be honest, it breaks my heart that this brand is only available to the professional, but that just means you need to ask your favorite salon to carry the brand - or um, ask a professional to give you gifts. -cough-

Salon Perfect Neon Collision

So I kind of forgot to tell you about these. Oops. Salon Perfect came out with 6 hot neon dot polishes that were very reminiscent of Floam this summer. It was pretty hot.

Now these never made it to my Wal-Mart (grr) but I got to drool over them at Cosmoprof North America (above). Lovely stuff.  If you're looking to find these - um, yeah good luck. If you were one of the lucky ones to have them at your Wal-Mart, YAY! Otherwise, man... yeah good luck.

China Glaze Autumn Nights

Ah geez, Fall 2013 already? Yes.  One more collection from Cosmoprof North America that I wasn't able to talk about until now (grumble) and a blurry picture to go with it! I don't know what was wrong with me. But I'm pretty much in love with the top half so there's that.  It's something about jewel tones.  The bottom half... well I'm needing a pick me up because I'm not a fan yet.

You may have seen these on display already but the official release is supposed to be September 2013. Twelve new shades available in open stock, 6 piece box collections ("Gossip over Gimlets" and "Strike Up A Cosmo") and then the pretty 6 piece counter display, 12 piece counter display and 36 piece rack.  Those last 3 things are mainly for the professionals.



My picks are Strike Up A Cosmo (the rose gold on top) and Goldie But Goodie (the gold shimmer on top) but I'm interested in how Gossip Over Gimlets (silver foil on bottom) will wear too.

Okay, so I just showed you one of the 6 summer polishes from the Seche Summer collection but earlier this month, Seche announced their Fall 2013 collection too!

Now, I was able to get a few photos during Cosmoprof North America 2013 but call it shaky hands or something because only one came out well enough to show.

Announcing: Season 3 of Nail Files!

While I was at Cosmoprof North America - Las Vegas in last month, I got to sit down with Katie Cazorla and some of my favorite bloggers to talk about all things Katie.  She introduced the Color Flash System (review coming soon) and gave us all little Mini Nail Pods & two colors (which is FANTASTIC because I already purchased the full sized lamp & 4 colors so now I have 6!).  It was such an awesome dinner... I was seated between Karie Frost, Beauty Director for NAILPRO & Nail It! Magazine and Beth Livesay, Senior Editor at NAILS Magazine & author of Salon Fanatic. Can we say ultimate fan girl dinner?

Then she told us what's coming down the pipeline for her - not one, not two but THREE TV shows!  First off, the news I've been waiting for!

So what does this mean for Nail Files? Well you should know by now that Katie doesn't stand still. This fall, she will be opening a "nail lounge" inside the W Hotel in Hollywood!

I'm super excited because the W Hotel is a part of the Starwood Hotels & Resorts line, and I LIVE for the Westin and the aloft hotels in my limited but fabulous travels.  (Oh man, if I could get a Katie Cazorla Nail Lounge inside the Westin La Cantera in San Antonio... I'd probably move up there and beg to work there - not even remotely kidding.)

Other cool things to be looking for - Katie has a segment on beauty on The Real talk show on FOX - Looks like something else to go into my DVR!  The other is in production right now - think salon help from a gentler side. Until I'm allowed to say more, that's about all you're getting from me!

CPNALV 2013: China Glaze Ombre - Part 2!

The last thing from China Glaze that I'm able to talk about right now are the new China Glaze Ombre sets. China Glaze had seen a good response from the first three sets that were Sally's Beauty Supply exclusive. If you recall, I reviewed the Wait Teal You See! in March. (Don't remember? Click here.)

The four new Ombre sets will be coming out next month, but some keen readers have already spotted it in their local beauty supply stores. Not only are there more sets, but it's no longer a Sally's exclusive, so you may be able to find them in your favorite China Glaze spot.

I had to compliment the ladies of China Glaze on the "blogger pose" because I really liked the organic feel, and they were really giddy... like they had done well.  And they have done well. I did mention that I hated the hexagonal sponge because if you have wide nail beds, then you end up wasting so much of the sponge per finger. It was good feedback from them. I'm still totally on board with the Ombre sets because you get 4 polishes for ~$13. 

The embargoed stuff is equally cool.  Just saying.

CPNALV 2013: China Glaze On The Horizon

One of the most difficult things about attending a business-to-business conference like Cosmoprof North America Las Vegas is that there are items on the show floor that you can see but a lot of times you can't photograph, write about or talk about for months later. That was the case for China Glaze. I was able to preview six amazing collections but my lips are sealed and the photos I was allowed to take are being hidden in folder upon folder until the day that they can be released.

One thing we could share was the On The Horizon "feathered finish" polishes that will be launching in September.  This is a 6 piece collection that featured small bar glitter in a various of color combinations. It only takes 2 coats for each polish to be opaque.  The official press release states "This free-spirited collection introduces six new lacquers using interwoven matte particles to create a feathered finish."



As you can see, the colors are as fun as the names. My quick picks are All A Flutter and Flock Together.  The China Glaze® On the Horizon collection will be available in August 2013 at fine salons and beauty supply stores nationwide with an SRP of $10.

CPNALV 2013: China Glaze Gelaze

When I first made my appointment to meet with China Glaze this year, I was told that they had something so awesome it was going to make me giddy. Now, we all know that China Glaze has had issues with people leaking their information, both domestically and internationally, so I was skeptical until I saw the China Glaze instagram on Sunday morning and literally responded with WHAT IS THIS.

Meet the newest revolution of China Glaze - Gelaze. But with an accent mark on the a. I'm sure I could find the hot key to make the ' but for now, pretend or use a Sharpie on your monitor. (Don't use a Sharpie.)

Gelaze is a 100% gel with a base coat built in. The bottle is powder coated in the actual shade so you know exactly what you're getting. China Glaze took the top 36 selling shade including Ruby Pumps and Fairy Dust, and created this new gel system

To use, prep and shape the nail as normal, then use one thin coat. Cure for 30 seconds in an LED lamp or 60 seconds in a UV lamp. Remove the tacky layer that remains with a lint free square pad soaked in Isopropyl Alcohol. Then add a second thin coat of gel, cure in the lamp again (30 sec LED/60 sec UV) and remove that tacky layer are you're done.  The Gelaze top coat is optional but cure times are the same.

When it's time to remove the Gelaze, you'd break the seal with a nail file, wrap the nail with a cotton pad soaked in acetone and wait for the gel to break down.

Gelaze also has 3 treatments available as a base coat for those who are needing to work on the integrity of the nails. They are Therapy, Foundation and Maintenance.

China Glaze is coming out with their own LED lamp for your convenience to use with the system as well.

Gelaze will be available at Sally's Beauty in late October, early November. The line will include a 0.5 fl oz bottle for professionals that cost $14 and a 0.33 fl oz "mini" bottle for consumers that cost $12.

CPNALV 2013: No-Miss Ltd


Every year I like to stop by No-Miss and see what they are up to. I always look forward to seeing Milana but unfortunately she wasn't there this year but they did have lots to see!

This year, No-Miss launched A.Lexa, a nail polish line designed for tweens and teens. There are 16 shades in 3 different categories.

Additionally, they are coming out with a new toner.

They also had their lines of mascaras, eyeliners and lip glosses.

Did you know that with every online purchase comes a free clear lip gloss (shown on the far left)?

It was neat to see the following poster hanging near the nail polish.

Which by the way, it made in the USA. Did you notice the new caps?


Finally, new this year is a huge chocolate lip healder. I was lucky enough to get one and the smell is amazing.
