FingerPaints Holographic Top Coat

Nothing To Disclose

So yesterday was all about a decent lavender creme. Today is all about making it holographic. I know that holographic powder is all the rage right now, but that requires a gel top coat and I don't feel like removing gel polish right now. Granted, my SteamOff machine from Katie Cazorla makes quick work of it, but still. Instead, I busted out the FingerPaints Holographic Top Coat that came out in 2016.

I used just one coat of this over my existing manicure and didn't top coat it. Normally I would but I knew that I wanted to see the holo for now.

Even though you can see a pretty definitely flame pattern in the bottle, this is really more of a scattered holo on the nail. I was surprised because I thought I'd see more of a flame, but overall, I'm happy with it.

FingerPaints Metallic Moondust

Press Sample

Back in March, FingerPaints announced a limited edition collection of intense glitter chrome polishes with textured glitter. Today I have Metallic Moondust to share. This green, gold and silver mix is an interesting combination in my collection.

I used a base coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter A-Peel, 2 coats of polish and no top coat. My brush was super "fluffy" which aided in the glitter application.

As you can see, the 2 coats was perfectly fine for full coverage without any bald spots. I was quite surprised how well it did apply.

In the shade you can really see the different glitters appear. This combination gives the polish almost a 3D effect in person and in photos.

Hiding out in some indirect light and you can see how this polish is a bit rough (textured). I always feels weird when I run my hands through my hair, but otherwise it's neat to wear.

FingerPaints Beach Bound

More on my purple kick, today I have the FingerPaints Beach Bound from the Summer in the City Summer 2012 collection.  This is a great medium purple (like, Barney the dinosaur purple) creme that was very pigmented.  I used a base coat of Poshe, 2 coats of polish and finished with nubar diamont.  Formula was nice and smooth.

As you can see in the sun, this color covers the nail - no bald spots and really no issues with application either.  It reminds me of China Glaze Grape Pop but less blue and more purple.

Same with the shade - good coverage despite the lobster hands I have going on.

And indoors with the flash - nice, pigmented, smooth.  Winner.  The price is right and the color is fantastic.

FingerPaints Cordur-Orange

Dipping into fall again, today is the FingerPaints Cordur-Orange from the Fall Fashionista collection.  This is a dark orange creme which actually wears darker than what is seen in the bottle.  I used a base of Poshe, 1 coat of polish and a top of CND Air Dry.  I was amazed at how opaque this polish was.

Unfortunately, I did not have any sun, but lots of clouds.  As you can see, the polish looks more red on the nail than orange, but it's definitely an orange creme.

Same story in the shade.  I definitely think it's a great wearable color all year round, despite being a fall collection.  In case this is your first time to PolishGalore, the scoop is that I don't care for fall... not cold enough and not sunny enough.  (Yes, I know that's pretty oxymoronic right there.  And yes, I know oxymoronic isn't a real word, but I like it.)

And finally indoors with the flash - the camera wasn't too happy about focusing on the bottle.  Despite the dark background, I'm actually using natural light behind my front door for lighting and the camera uses the flash to add in.

Definitely a nice wearable color - I'd buy it for a good staple if you don't have a dark orange already.  Great possibilities during Halloween for nail art or even an autumn themed manicure.

FingerPaints Motley

2012 is the year of the magnetics and the flakies!  I was so excited when FingerPaints announced their flakies collection and was able to purchase all 5 thanks to the lovely ladies of Sally's Beauty Supply's Twitter.  I wasn't sure which one I wanted to try first, so I just grabbed and that's how Motley came to be my first swatched.  I used a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote, then FingerPaints Black Expressionist, then one coat of Motley on my index and ring fingers, and two coats of Motley on my middle and pinkie fingers.  I topped it with CND Air Dry.

Motley has a green and a blue flakie in a slight yellow base.  I talked to a nail tech who said the suspension base that the flakie is floating in has to be used over a darker color because of the yellow in the base, otherwise it can make the base color (black in this instance) look off.  Does that make any sense?  It did when she showed me over a light blue and it made the blue looks weirdest green.  Anyway.

While 1 coat does do wonders, I prefer 2 coats.  2 coats on my middle finger, 1 coat on the ring finger.
See what I mean?

In the shade, you can really see how pretty this is - reminds me of fish food - the colorful stuff, not the round brown pellet stuff.

Seriously, indoors with the flash just makes this look blah.  Almost glow in the dark though, haha.  Not a good look for flakies - indirect sun/shade is the best way to see these pretties.  If you can still find them in Sally's, go get them!  They are limited edition.

FingerPaints [Website] [Facebook] [Twitter] [Blog] can be found in Sally's Beauty Supplies stores and online for $4.99 USD each.

FingerPaints Black Expressionism

While purchasing the 5 FingerPaint flakies, I also got suckered into getting FingerPaints Black Expressionism, a black creme that dries matte.  Oh yes, matte.  Almost rubbery?  I used a base of Duri Rejuvacote, 2 coats of polish and no top coat.  I wished that had been a one coat black, but it really needed 2 coats to be fully opaque.

Now, the rubber/plastic/matte finish isn't as apparent here, but just give me a moment.  You can't see much because it is black with a black bottle, but yes opaque creme.

Now can you see the texture of this polish?  Kinda rubbery!  I'm calling it plastic, officially.  Anywho - nice creme base but I wish it was more of a one coat black.

Finally indoors with the flash - note how shiny this polish is without a top coat!  That part did make me happy.  :]

ORLY Fifty-Four

One more posting with long nails - I was at a Sally's one day when I spotted this ORLY on sale for $2.99.  I figured for three bucks, it was worth the gamble.  I decided to use my existing manicure of Stunning Stilettos for my index and middle fingers and attempted to wear this over bare nails on my ring and pinkie fingers.  This is a gold and pink microglitter in a clear base.  The yellow base that you see is an illusion.  I can't explain it.  I promise.

Okay, what?  I'm lost.  Can you see it?

I mean, really?

Indoors with the flash, you can see it a bit!

It's hard to see, but it's there.  Much a waste of my money.  This is 2 coats of Fifty-Four over all nails and you can barely tell I have anything on.  This is from the Classic Collection but seriously?

What really gets me is that the product pictures I've seen for this polish has a PINK/PURPLE microglitter bottle with a clear base.  What happened to my bottle?!  I don't know what's going on but it looks like I got a bad bottle.  No wonder it was only $3.

You can purchase Orly for $7.50 through their website, or it's available online at Head2ToeBeauty for $10 and in Sally's Beauty Supply stores for $8.99.  Additionally, you can Like them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter.
