KBShimmer Chilly Pepper

Nothing To Disclose

This past month, I participated in a Secret Santa swap with a $50 indie bracket. As you may know, I have completely gone from "OMG NO INDIES" to "Well, that's pretty much all I buy now." KBShimmer is definitely one of those brands that tends to be a repeat purchase by me and I was lucky enough to get Chilly Pepper as part of my Santa gift. This creme red is perfect for Christmas or really, just any time... which is why I decided to make this my first official polish to wear in 2016.

I used a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote, 2 coats of polish and finished with KBShimmer Clearly On Top. Honestly, this polish was pretty opaque in one coat, but I went with two to be safe and not have any bald spots. I did get some polish on my skin because I have very short nubs, but it wiped away cleanly with acetone - no staining into my cuticles like some reds can.

Now normally I have a photo in the sun, one in the shade, and one in indirect light but new year, new photos hah. We've had very unusual weather here in South Texas - 80 degrees one day and 42 the next... Sunshine for miles and then grey skies with lots of rain. Because of all that, I decided to just pull out my MyStudio MS20 and let's do this. I'm tired of the weather being my excuse for blogging. I have too much polish here to complain about the rain.

For those interested, I purchased the MyStudio MS20 after reading about it on the Cult Nails blog here. There will be obviously a learning curve as I get photos and I may still reserve my holo polishes for sunlight, but with a basic creme, you can't go wrong.

Speaking of basic cremes - KBShimmer Chilly Pepper reminds me of a VERY special bottle in my collection. The one and only Christian Louboutin "Rouge", the signature red from his red soled shoes. I grabbed my can of swatches and pulled them out to sit side by side.

Can you tell which polish cost $7.50 and which cost $50.00?

No?

Me either.

They are pretty dead on dupes. Both were 3 coats of polish and one coat of top coat. I was very surprised but also a bit happy inside. I'm sure your wallet will be now too.

KBShimmer Chilly Pepper was from their 2015 Winter Collection. Be sure to scoop up this staple red in case it ever goes away.

KBShimmer Funky Cold Patina

Press Sample

The last polish that I was given to review from the 2015 Spring collection by KBShimmer was Funky Cold Patina. This is another crelly with a turquoise base and glitter in metallic copper, blue and purple ranging from small to large sized.

I used a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote, 2 coats of polish and finished with KBShimmer Clearly On Top. I inverted my bottle 30 minutes before application to help the glitters float around. Application was easy, no pooling or dragging.

In my light box, you can see the nice mix of glitters suspended in the polish. This is a very good representation of a crelly - it's not a creme, it's not a jelly, it has glitter... It's all here!

Same goes in the sun. Despite how it may look, I really didn't have any issues with glitter sticking up or curling. That can be an issue with curved nails and large glitter, but I didn't have any issues.

In the shade, you can really see the purple glitter popping out where the blue stays more muted.

Finally in indirect light, you can see a build up of glitter, especially in my pinkie finger but again, I didn't have any issues. Also, in my bottle, you can see a bit of white build up near the bottom. This is normal and does not affect application.

Overall, this is probably my least favorite shade in terms of color. I've never been the largest fan of turquoise polishes to begin with - I really have to be in the mood to want to wear them. That being said, it is a unique and pretty polish and I really didn't have any issues with application so if funky is your color, the Funky Cold Patina is your polish!

KBShimmer Cool Hand Cuke

Press Sample

Do you celebrate Easter? We went to see family since this is probably one of the last trips I'll get to make before my son is born. A perfect polish to wear for this spring holiday is KBShimmer Cool Hand Cuke, a pale minty green polish with pastel glitters in circle, triangle, stars and hexes ranging from extra small to large.

I used a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote, 3 coats of polish and finished with KBShimmer Clearly on Top. I inverted the bottle 30 minutes before application in order to help the glitters float to the top.

Here in the light box, you can see the different glitters really applied well. I was able to get a little bit of everything without any issues.

Same with the sun. I did feel like I got a bit TOO many glitters on my index and middle fingers but nothing was sticking up or poking up so we're good.

Meanwhile in the shade? Well - I'm really not loving it with this photo. I don't know if it's the color or the glitter or what but either way this just doesn't do it for me when I see it in the shade.

Finally I have a photo in indirect light. I really do like how unique this polish is but I'm not sure that I'll pull for it more than just spring time. That being said, I'm glad I have it because the different glitters is awesome.

KBShimmer Meow or Never

Press Sample

I'm quite close to being a crazy cat lady (we have 6 cats - ages 14 years to 4 years old) so when I heard that KBShimmer had a color called Meow or Never, I knew it was the one for me. This polish from the 2015 Spring collection is based on the Pantone spring color Glacier Gray and has purple, gray, periwinkle and sky blue glitter ranging in size from small to large. This is also a crelly and 3 thin coats is recommended.

I used a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote, 3 coats of polish and finished with KBShimmer Clearly on Top. 30 minutes prior to application, I turned my bottle upside down in order to help get more glitter to the top of the bottle.

No sun again, so here's a photo in my light box. You can see that the glitters really show up well - especially the periwinkle blue glitter which I love.

Meanwhile in the shade, you can really see how crelly this is - glitters are suspended in the grey base color.

Finally in indirect light, the polish just looks lovely. I really didn't have any issues with glitter sticking up or curling up, which is always a plus.

KBShimmer To Peach His Own

Press Sample

I have another KBShimmer crelly from the 2015 Spring Collection today - this is To Peach His Own and is a pale peach crelly with green, gold, magenta and purple glitters ranging in small to large.

I used a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote, 2 coats of polish and finished with KBShimmer Clearly On Top. I honestly should have used 3 coats but because this base coat is so close to my skin color, I didn't realize the opaqueness until I was done polishing. I also inverted this polish 30 minutes before application to help the glitters float to the top.

This photo was taken in my light box. You can see how the peachy base is really close to my skin tone - so I'm not totally how I feel about that. Another KBShimmer lover mentioned that it reminded her of fruity pebbles in the polish. I can see that!

Meanwhile in the sun, you can start to see a little bit of the VNL (visible nail line) especially on my pinkie.

Finally in indirect light, you have a hard time telling my skin from the polish. I can't say that I love this polish but it's most definitely unique to my collection.

KBShimmer I'm So Sweet Pea

Press Sample

How do you like your crelly? Part of the KBShimmer 2015 Spring collection was a line of crelly polishes. KBShimmer defines a crelly as a polish finish that can be layered to cover the nail line, but still has sheerness to allow glitters to show through. People have a million ways they like to wear crellies. Some like to use a base color that is similar to the crelly so they don't have to use many coats. Others like to invert their bottles upside down to allow the glitters to fall closer to the brush. Still others like to just layer coat after coat until opaque (KBShimmer recommends 3 thin coats for her crellies).

Today I have KBShimmer I'm So Sweet Pea from the Spring 2015 collection. This is a pale purple base with glitters in pink, mint, purple and turquoise. The glitter ranges in small to large. I used a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote, 3 thin coats of polish and finished with KBShimmer Clearly On Top.

I follow the "invert your bottle" train of theory so 30 minutes prior to applying, I put my bottle upside down to allow the glitters to fall towards the top of the bottle. Does it really work? Well, I'm not a scientist, but I prefer it.

So I didn't have ANY sun, so this photos is from my light box. You can see that I don't have many large glitters on my pinkie but they are showing up on the other nails. I paint my nails from pinkie to thumb so it took a bit for my brush to get loaded properly with glitter.

Outside in the shade and the light purple base really looks more milky white to me. I still like it but it's not nearly as purple as I would have preferred.

In indirect light, you can see the pale lavender base a little better. Crellies take patience, so don't just glop your polish on. I do think it's quite pretty but I may prefer for this to be more of an accent nail than a full manicure.

KBShimmer Blue-d Lines

Press Sample

Since I'm having another boy soon, I've been trying to wear more blue polishes in celebration. KBShimmer Blue-d Lines from the Spring 2015 collection is a perfect blue holo to add to my collection.

I used a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote, 2 coats of polish and finished with KBShimmer Clearly On Top. The formula was good and even and this holo is pretty on point.

Check it out! Look how holo this is! Full sun is always the best with holos and thankfully my Texas sun helps.

Well, shade kind of takes my fun away but it's still a good base blue - not too dark, not too light.

Finally in indirect light, you can see a little bit of the holo but really, full sun is where this is all at. Great for spring and summer!

KBShimmer In and Sprouts

Press Sample

Why hello! I am here, counting down the days until I officially become a mom of 2 boys (36 days left!) and I decided that some blog posts were in order. I'm attempting to get back to a regular schedule, because man, I have some really awesome polishes here to show you. To see the latest, make sure you are following my Instagram, because I update that quite a bit. Today I'm bringing you KBShimmer In And Sprouts from the spring 2015 collection. You can't tell it from the photo above (thanks light box) but this is a light green holo polish.

I used a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote, 2 coats of polish and finished with KBShimmer Clearly on Top. Top coat did not dull the holo at all. The polish applied very nicely and the holo is quite insane (unlike Blush Money).

Cue sound effects. Check it out in the sun! Lots of holo under this light green - it would be super fantastic with some black polish stamping I feel. Or just wear it alone!

As with most holos, go in some indirect light, and the holo does fade away. It's still a very pretty light green and I didn't have any issues with staining.

Finally in the shade and yeah, bye bye holo but you can really see the green color. It almost reminds me of a limeade. Do you enjoy Sonic because it's one of my favorite places to get drinks. That, and I'm obsessed with their ice.

KBShimmer Blush Money

Press Sample

Also from the Spring 2015 KBShimmer launch was Blush Money, a pink holographic polish. I don't think I have anything quite like this in my collection, so I was happy to see it.

I used a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote, 3 coats of polish and finished with KBShimmer Clearly On Top. I found the formula to be pretty but a bit on the sheer side.

This photo was taken in my light box. You can see a faint holographic shimmer in the bottom but on the nail, it's not nearly as pronounced.

Meanwhile in the sun, you are still struggling a bit to see the holo. I was a little let down by this but I figure that if I really wanted more holo, I can add a holographic top coat.

As expected, indirect light completely ruins any holo but I do like the soft pink shade that is left.

In order to finally see some holo, I took one photo with my flash. I'm not sure how often I'll pull this color out but it is a pretty color overall.

KBShimmer Eyes White Open

 Press Sample

Ever since Cult Nails announced they were closing, I have been hoping to find another "holy grail" white - you know, that perfect 1-2 coater that is NOT streaky or messy. Thankfully, the KBShimmer Spring 2015 collection included this beautiful white creme called Eyes White Open. Will it hold up to my beloved Tempest?

For this manicure, I used a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote, 2 coats of polish and finished with KBShimmer Clearly On Top. The formula was a little messy for me but with careful cleanup, I was able to see the results below.

This photo was taken in my light box. LOOK HOW PRETTY IT IS. If you're in the East Coast USA, you may recognize this as the tons of snow you're getting. I'm really happy that it's looking pretty fantastic though - no streaks, super opaque.

This photos was taken in the shade but you'd barely know it! It looks so pretty and clean. It's definitely going to be repurchased when I run out of it and Cult Nails Tempest.

This was taken in indirect light under my porch. You can tell just how smoothly it applied and even though I had to get into my cuticles, you can't really tell.

This is also in indirect light but indoors. What else can you say? I'm happy with it and I do know this will be repurchased. I plan to use it a lot this summer with neons.

KBShimmer Hexy Bikini

Press Sample

Earlier this year, KBShimmer celebrated their 6th Anniversary and for that special event, they released this beautiful holographic texture glitter polish called Hexy Bikini. It's pretty fantastic. The main colors to the eye are silver, teal and purple but there is just so much going on here.

I used a base coat of piCture pOlish Revolution (a base coat that allows you to remove glitter polish like regular polish - it's not a peel off base coat), 2 coats of polish and finished with KBShimmer Clearly on Top because I prefer a smoother top with glitter. The brush was a little fluffy to aid in application.

Look how amazing this is. I feel like everything is amazing right now - but seriously - LOOK AT THIS. The shine is fantastic, the purple and teal are a great combination of colors and then you have this great holographic silver base.

Even in the shade, you can see how this color pops. I also had a little bit of a clean up issue because of fluffy brush that just make sure you clean your sidewalls with acetone and you won't have any problems.

I was able to grab this photo with some indirect light coming in my living room. Just again, that beautiful rainbow holographic look in the bottle is just beautiful.

Revolution did help in removal of this polish but if you don't own it and don't use a peelable base coat, glitter removal is like normal glitter removal so have patience and remove it properly so you don't damage your natural nail.
