ManGlaze Gleen Rantern/NawSome Sauce

Update 12 September 2011: ManGlaze, cheeky fellows they are, have renamed this polish "NawSome Sauce".

The finale in the upcoming ManGlaze shades to be released later this year is Gleen Rantern, a forest green matte.  Next to Metal Licka, this was the color I've been most looking forward to, since I have slowly started getting into green polishes.  This is worn with no base, no top coat, and only one coat.  Best part, there was zero staining from the polish - very important to me!

Additional shade picture so you can see how well it wears.  I haven't tried it against Zoya Veruschuka yet, but I think this is more green and less blue.

And here it is with a top coat of Seche Vite.
Loads of sparkly goodness!

And just some additional shiny goodness.  Again, this color has not yet been released.

ManGlaze Butt Taco

This is another upcoming color from ManGlaze so "ignore the bottle, ignore the name" - just check out the color!  It's a bright orange matte with a bit of red in it - not really a tomato color but not carrot orange either.  This is 3 thin coats with no base or top coat.

Sorry for the blurry shade picture.  But you can see the color - just squint a little...

And because I can't leave stuff alone, here's a top coat over it.
Mmm, pretty shiny stuff that's all kinds of good.  Even if this color's name reminds me of a bad day at a Mexican place.

And then in the shade.  Fun times!  This color isn't out yet but can you stand the wait?!

ManGlaze Metal Licka/Mink Mitten

Update 7 September 2011: ManGlaze, cheeky fellows they are, have renamed this polish "Mink Mitten".

"Think of this as Hot Mess's illegitimate offspring. "You got blingy shit in my purple!" "You got purpley shit in my bling bling!" And a new star is born. You may have seen a sneaky peek of this color under the name Metal Licka at PolishGalore.com but we couldn't resist a little inside joke. We're calling this one the Mink Mitten. It's a nickname we had for the Michigan peepshow/adult novelty chain, The Velvet Touch."
Ignore the bottle design and kind of ignore the name... This is one of the 3 new colors that ManGlaze is creating - release date has not been announced.  The name is temporary but for today, this is definitely Metal Licka.  It's like Fuggen Ugly and Hot Mess had a baby... and then fell into some grapes or something.  It's a matte finish despite having all the silver glitter running through it. I put this directly on my nails - no base, no top coat and just one coat of polish.  You can see a tiny bit of balding on the index and ring fingers but that could have been corrected with just another coat of polish.  Because this is a matte, it did dry fast.

Seriously.  Purple.  Glitter.  Matte.  Win.  Cue sun!

Here it is in the shade.

And of course, I can never leave things alone.  Here it is with a top coat of Seche Vite.  First in the sun:
Definitely need to wear 2 coats of polish - you can see the balding on my index badly now.

Now in the shade:

I haven't done a wear test yet, but it is a matte, so you know they don't wear as long as something sealed with a base/top coat.  As I mentioned before, this is not for sale yet.

Christmas Manicure

Water marble before scrubbing clean up
I really went all out this year on my manicure.  Looking back, I think I needed to stick with one product line of colors - not sure... it was crazy fun to create but also super time consuming.

I started out with a base coat of Seche Natural.  Next I added one coat of China Glaze Cheers To You.  I did several test runs of what base color would look best and the silver in Cheers To You seemed to really make the colors pop.  Next I did a water marble of Zoya Edyta and Zoya Kym.  I did 3 drops of Edyta and 2 drops of Kym for each nail.  Because both are glitter nail polishes, you have to be careful with the way that the polish disperses in the water.  I did not actually swirl the polish because it kept falling apart when I did that, so I just went straight down with my nails in the best possible spot.  To keep my hands (semi) clean, I used petroleum jelly all over my nails down the joint but even then you can see I needed some clean up.  I finally ended with a topping of ManGlaze Matte-Astrophe Clear Matte Top Coat to give it a nice satin look.  Only problem with the matte was that it chipped a tiny bit in some places.

I did have issues with both my pinkies.  On my left hand, I just let it be, but on my right hand, I cheated and just laid down a base coat of Kym and added some swipes of Edyta.

Here's my left hand in the sun and then the shade.  The sun made the matte top coat look non-existent, but it was there.  I did the manicure on Thursday morning and just took all these pictures on Christmas Day, so it lasted a good while.

Next is my right hand, sun and then shade.  You can see how I cheated on the pinkie.

Yay!  Water marbling checked marked off my list!

ManGlaze "Mayonnaise"

Starting today, August 13th, ManGlaze is offering their new matte white nail polish called Mayonnaise.  Also, back in stock is their matte grey Fuggen Ugly which has been slightly revised.  Unfortunately, that's all the information I have, but I read on Twitter that Fuggen Ugly is all the same you love, plus just "more matte."

ManGlaze Hot Mess

I have to admit, I love the artwork on these babies.  Reminds me of the local band here "The Reely Rotnz" that I would jam out to as a teenager.  Two of the band members were family friends, so I felt like a VIP since I had their CDs and stuff.  Anyway.

Hot Mess is the obnoxiously awesome silver microglitter top coat in a clear base from ManGlaze.  I think "Hot Mess" is one of my favorite things to say, as well as its an awesome song by Cobra Starship.

I wanted to see how this would work over a variety of nails, so in the sun we have Hot Mess 2 coats on the pointer finger by itself.  Almost opaque but still has a bit of VNL.  Middle finger has 2 coats of Hot Mess over 2 coats of #Matte is Murder.  Ring fingers has 2 coats of Hot Mess over 2 coats of Fuggen Ugly.  Finally my pinkie has 3 coats of Hot Mess over 2 coats of Fuggen Ugly.  Which do you like best?

Shade picture:

My hands are having issues right now.  I'm working on that.  I also have a HUGE bruise on the top of my polish hand where my nurse completely mangled me with my IV last week.  Thankfully it doesn't hurt, but between that, and the other nurse who bruised my inner elbow drawing blood, I look like some kind of junkie.  Awesome.

Now, this is a glitter so I had to take my felt and scrub a bit.  I am just not patient enough to remember to PLACE the felt around my finger (and I never use foil, but I should, and will, I promise), but overall it ALL came off on the felt, no crazed microglitter on my hands for hours.  Yay!

ManGlaze #Matte is Murder

Also in my package of ManGlaze (snickers) was the #Matte is Murder, which is the black matte of the group.  Not sure why there is a number sign before the word matte.  It's that way with #Matte Astrophe as well.  Insight?  I've always been a bit shy with black polish but a black matte reminds me of a chalkboard, and I've seen some awesome black on black nail art lately, with matte and shiny coats being intermixed.

I used a base coat of Seche Natural and 2 coats of #Matte is Murder for this - again this polish was nicely mixed, good consistency and great dry time.  It's a great black matte, but I really think I like Fuggen Ugly better.  Sun picture!

Shade picture!
My hands have looked increasingly red lately.  I'm working on it.  New meds and stuff.

And of course, a layer of Seche Vite to make things shiny!
WHOA.  This one has even MORE rainbow goodness to it - check it out!  Seriously, click the picture and make it larger.  I was in LOVE.

You can see more of the green sparkle in this one - thanks green grass that is taller than me in some places (tomorrow is "mow the lawn day").  Rain + insane heat = tons of grass.  And mosquitoes.  :[

Again, another winner in my book by ManGlaze.  I like that you have two very different looks - a matte or a rainbow shine.  Always fun to get more than one look out of a polish.

ManGlaze Fuggen Ugly

After seeing tons of blogs review ManGlaze, I wanted to try it out myself, so I bought the whole line (don't faint, it's only 4 bottles) and will be reviewing 3 of them over the next few days.  Gotta admit, I was a little apprehensive at first buying something called ManGlaze, but I figured it's a good ice breaker.

Fuggen Ugly is the "grey" of the group.  This is the original matte nail polish, marketed in 2007.  I have purposely avoided matte polishes because they normally chip after just a few hours, but ManGlaze is one that's a laster.  I can't wait to do an actual "last test" soon - it was supposed to happen this weekend, but my son had other plans for my hands (he wouldn't sit still).

I used a base coat of Seche Natural, and then 2 coats of Fuggen Ugly.  I was really happy with the dry time and consistency of this polish - most mattes dry so fast on the nail that you can barely get one coat on evenly, but this had just the right dry time to it.

Check this out!  It's the perfect steel grey that I've been looking for, and such a great application!

I really am happy with this color - it's probably my new favorite "quick" polish that doesn't take a long time to apply or dry.

Even in the shade, this picture holds up quite well - it's a pretty solid grey... no blue or purple undertones to it like some greys.

Now, for fun, I added a top coat of Seche Vite.  My pointer finger was smeared about 5 seconds into it though - again, my son was just full of snips and snails and puppy dog tails that day.

Do you see that rainbow sparkle?!  Holy cow, I was in LOVE.

You can see a little more of the rainbow in this one (middle finger).  Holy hotness, the Seche really blings this out, but as you can see, you could also just wear it matte and still have a wonderful manicure.  Aces, ManGlaze - aces.

ManGlaze Sneak Peek

I never thought I was a matte person until I started seeing multiple postings of ManGlaze show up online.  ManGlaze is cruelty-free and big 3 free, and made by hand here in the States.  The best part is their owner and founder, Marc.  That guy is seriously a riot.  I mean it.  Check out his Twitter page sometime.

ManGlaze was launched in 2007 and claims to be the original matte polish.  I wouldn't doubt it, since I don't ever remember seeing matte polish prior to this - not in black or grey.  There are 4 stores that sell ManGlaze but unless you live in NYC, Chicago, or um, Greece (not sure how they got the stuff), then you can only find it on their website [official website].  Now I have to have my bonding moment - the name "Man Glaze" came from when Marc's friend Cory came back from a GWAR concert.  During the concert, GWAR has these anatomically correct cannons that shoot various bodily looking fluids at the audience.  In 2005, I got to go to the Sounds of the Underground tour and actually interview GWAR (this was back when I was a radio DJ and news director for a local tv station), and let me tell you... scariest and weirdest interview of my LIFE.  I also got to be in the media pit for their concert and I was THE ONLY PHOTOGRAPHER there.  Can you say "easy target"?  So I have a very ... frightfully funny memory of GWAR, needless to say.

Believe it or not, their customer base is about 50/50 with men and women.  Not only is is rough and tough enough for men, women love matte polish as of lately, and you can use a top coat and ManGlaze has a secret rainbow soft side (more on that later).  I really think ManGlaze and Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics need to combine their powers one day.  Now that would be something awesome.

Now I KNOW that there is 5 bottles out there of ManGlaze... but they are only selling 4 of them on their website, so you know - I bought the whole line.  The one that I didn't get was their "The Death Tar" which I believe is a matte black, but according to their website, the last bottle was purchased in October 2009, and Matte Is Murder was their new, more awful matte black.  So I purchased the grey matte "Fuggen Ugly", the matte top coat "#Matte Astrophe", the black matte "#Matte is Murder" and the silver top coat "Hot Mess".  Now I don't really know why, but my Fuggen Ugly cap was shorter than the others.  The bottle was the same, but as you can see in the first picture, it's got a short handle.

Now these bottles are not for the faint at heart.  The artwork is pretty out there, but hey, who's to say all polish is supposed to be pretty roses and whatnot?  ManGlaze DOES market to men, with its dark, matte color and finish.  I decided to use my AWESOME computer skills to make this animation of the bottle's entire label (and each bottle is covered completely in a label).  This is "Fuggen Ugly"

Now a few things that I automatically have loved about this brand.
(1) He answers his Twitter - frequently.  Granted he has "only" 1,013 followers, but that's still a LOT of followers to individually be answering a TON of those Tweets.
(2) The bottles are all designed at an angle.  As a former graphic designer, I can appreciate the little things like that.  Even though the bottles are square, all the artwork is so that you have to put the bottle in a diamond shape to see the label "properly".  LOVE IT.
(3) His website takes PayPal (!) as well as major credit cards.
(4) Shipping was FAST.  I purchased on May 11th (around 10 a.m.), and it was shipped on May 12 (at 2 a.m.!).  I received it by May 15th.  Hello, 4 days waiting for nail polish?  Very happy me.
(5) Shipping and handling is included in the cost of the polish.  Each polish is $6.66 and each top coat is $13.13.
(6) Everything was packed SO well, even to how the packing peanuts were arranged in the boxes.  Again, I'm very appreciative of the little things.

The polishes come in cardboard boxes that again, are stamped on the edges so you have to diamond it up to see it properly.

Also with my order, I got some free business cards (these rock) and some decal stickers.  I'm totally slapping one on my Guitar Hero guitar.
The fine print at the top of the back of the card says "Fill in your contact info below and give this card to someone kinda forty."  LOVE IT.

Check back for my reviews of each product - I was seriously happy with the way this stuff turned out.  And of course, I get to giggle and say "I'm wearing ManGlaze" whenever I walk out with this stuff on.
