The Painted Nail: Name The Collection!

Photo from The Painted Nail Facebook Page
We heard about it at Cosmoprof North America, but now they are here!  Katie Cazorla from The Painted Nail has her winter collection made, but not named!  Instead, she's leaving that up to us!

HOW?

First, "Like" The Painted Nail on Facebook.  You will have to comment on the album pictures there (not on Katie's personal profile or public Facebook page).

Second, visit the "The Painted Nail NEW Collection" album.  Click here for a direct link!

Third, write your own name for each color OR "like" the written name that someone has already written.  According to Katie, the top 3 with the most "Likes" next to it will end up in the running for the actual names!  (Of course, they are subject to her final approval!)

Nail Files "Walter's Big, Fat Russian Birthday Party" Breakdown

Image from TV Guide Network's Facebook Page
Birthday party, Jersey Shore girls and stealing tips (money, not the nails)?!  It's another episode of Nail Files and it starts with Wonderful Walter doing the dishes and making coffee and FORGETTING VALENTINE'S DAY?!  But never fear, he picks some flowers out of the yard, sticks them in a glass and surprises Katie with them.  And then tells her how he's going to be doing all his daily chores.  Seriously - I need one of these in my lives.

His birthday is coming up (53!) so Katie wants to throw a huge Russian birthday party at Romanov - all Russian and totally Walter.  Too cute, seriously.

Down at the Painted Nail, and "everywhere you look" it's totally Candace Cameron Burke.  (Oh yes, I did sing the song in my head.)  I didn't know that Candace was on Make it Or Break It and neither did Katie, who busts out in a half handstand (which by the way, was better than I can do).

Back in the boutique, sounds like Tina is stealing tips and I'm thinking someone's going to get cut - LA style.

Katie gets to Romanov's (late) and it's a fancy place for sure.  All the red wallpaper with gold scrolls was killing my TV.  (The shaky camera was also killing me, but that's another story.)  So time to throw around numbers.  "$12,000?  No, I want $5,000!  Guess what - I own a nail salon and you have females in your life.  WIN."  Classic.

Hey Katie, I have a blog... You have nail polish...  Just saying.  (Totally kidding - I already have my Nail Files prize pack from Twitter - LOVE.)

Back to Tina and the missing tips.  Here's the thing - this is reality TV.  They are going to show the most outrageous moments they can find... and a money scandal is always good.

Katie has decided to learn a traditional Russian Gypsie Dance, and since Katie has an "excellent dance background", she's going to kill it.  She does seem to get it a lot quicker than I would, but I have to see something a thousand times when it comes to dance.

So back to Tina... and she's sending tons of weird text messages - almost obsessive.  Additionally she was telling Katie how she could better her business.  Uh, what?  (Also note: Katie doesn't like texting.  Crap.  Allow me to put my phone up.)  And spreading rumors that about threesomes?!  Come on now.

Okay, it's the time in the show where Katie vents to Walter and Walter comes to the rescue!  I really like him.

Katie gets everything ready for the party including an awesome blue dress.  That girl knows how to party.  While Walter is looking for Katie, she's sneaked off to the bathroom to don her black wig and get ready to dance her heart out.  I think Walter is going to pass out in excitement when he realizes that Katie is up there dancing for him.  He looks so happy and so in love.

Random but Kenny G is all OVER the place right now.  Anyone else notice that?!  I thought that was him next to Walter at the party, but then when he was on stage playing his sax?  And what's up with the cameo in the Katy Perry video?  You're the man, Kenny.

Back to the Painted Nail and hold the phone, the Jersey Shore girls walk in.  Now it's probably not COMPLETELY random... the producer of JS is the producer of NF...  But hey, I love cross-overs.

Up next week, we get to see those Jersey girls in action and Tina goes cra cra!

Nail Files airs on the TV Guide Network Tuesdays at 10/9c.

Happy Dance!: I asked Katie on Twitter if I'd see her in two weeks at Cosmoprof and she said yes!  Here's hoping she and I can snag a Cape Cod or 10...  and a picture.  ;]

Nail Files "Walter's Nominated for a Grammy!" Breakdown

Image from TV Guide Network's Facebook Page

Episode 3 aired tonight, and after the premier and 2nd episode last week, I read a lot of reviews, both good and bad.  This is reality TV and while the cameras are filming a TON of footage (multiple camera angles, multiple shots, etc), they have to cut it way down to 30 minutes.  They are going to show a lot of drama filled moments and out of sequence moments.  They have to make this entertaining you know!  I don't think one person is really thinking that all nail salons in America are run this way, and likewise, not all things that Katie does are "that" over the top.  Melissa from the Daily Nail got the opportunity to meet up with Katie last week and had nothing but great things to say.  Check it out here!

Walter, Katie's fiancé starts off bringing Katie some coffee in bed.  Hello, I want one of those.  :]  So Walter is nominated for a Grammy for his work on Kenny G's album (wonder if he helped out with Uncle Kenny's cameo with Katy Perry's T.G.I.F. video).  Katie heads over to the salon and informs everyone that Becky quit before going over to get a dress made for the Grammys.

With a $12k sticker shock, Katie is able to get the designers to loan her a dress for the red carpet.  It's definitely a lot about who you know in this business, and she definitely knows some good people.

Back in the Painted Nail, no one can find anything now that Becky is gone.  Are you surprised?  I really do hate how Becky left without any kind of notice or warning... it definitely puts everyone in a sore spot.  Note to all, never leave a job that unprofessionally but especially tend to avoid it when you're on national television.

Katie ends up hiring an organizer (and randomly finding a hammer in a drawer) to help get everything in order.  I was seriously about to make a joke about Hoarders before Katie just did.  I was pretty happy about her until she mentioned LifeLock.  Now, I'm not a fan of LifeLock (you can check out some information on Wikipedia here) but hey, if it works for her, yay.  (For the record, I use Citi IdentityMonitor.)  However, Katrina (the organizer) has done a great job at labeling everything and putting everything in color coded bins, boxes and folders, so despite me not liking her choice of fraud monitoring, she's done a good job.

While Katrina was organizing her heart out, Katie went to Martin Katz, the jeweler to the stars, so Katie could borrow some jewelry.  Holy cow, can I tell you how amazingly beautiful all the items were?  Her bracelet was almost the price of my house (as she also mentioned), so yeah - kinda cra cra.

Grammy Day!  Katie apparently isn't the most timely person (and especially with an entire television crew behind you).  She gets her hair and makeup done (and another crack about being on the Jersey Shore) and then forgets her nails.   She uses a machine that prints an image ONTO her nails.  Okay, so Barbie makes a version of this for $150, but I have got to know what she has!

Katie gets her dress, puts on her shoes, gets her purse, brushes her teeth, oh yeah and the limo is honking away (and can't make it up her driveway, go figure) while Walter is calming saying "let's GO."  By the way, Walter has dropped 45 pounds - which is awesome!

I've been in a limo once in my life, but mine didn't have a bottle of champagne.  Katie's does!  A-List stars are all over (remember Gaga in that egg?) and Katie is in Heaven.  This is what she was hoping for at Sundance so I'm glad she finally got it.

By the way, did you see who was interviewing Katie and Walter for TV Guide?  Oh yes, it was runner up from the 1st American Idol - Justin Guarini.  How's that for obscure reference?  I felt like an episode of Family Guy.

So sadly, Walter didn't win, but hey he's got 2 Grammys sitting at the house - pssh.  I can totally relate to Katie's excitement.  One day, I'll get to watch myself on TV, I'm sure of it, and you better believe I'll be just as freaking excited.

Coming up - the Jersey Shores girls will be coming in, a Traditional Russian Gypsy, dogs pooing on the floor (and doing it?), more drama and problems, OSCARS!  For a reality show junkie, this is a great fit into my routine.

Nail Files airs on the TV Guide Network Tuesdays at 10/9c.

Nail Files "Sundance is a Big Deal" Breakdown

Image from TV Guide Network's Facebook Page

Continuing with the crazy driver from the last episode, Katie demands to have the car pulled over and when the replacement driver shows up, turns out their original driver isn't crazy... he's in a diabetic coma.  LOVELY.  One granola bar and several apologies later, and the incident has been cast aside.  At this point, they have missed their flight to Sundance, and Katie is frantically calling the airlines.  Surprise!  She gets on the last plane (of course!).

Back in the shop, Nichole is living it up with the other nail techs - wine, music, dancing, party!  She also tries to get the answering machine to work...  Oh those tricky answering machines!

Back to Katie and Amy, in the snow, in Utah, and here's some good news - the room they booked (I think it's the one they booked?) is awesome.  It even has a hot tub!  Katie starts getting her displays ready for the plethora of celebrities she's been expecting but instead it's more like the random locals.  Ralina, Katie's publicist swears that Toby Maguire is around but Katie's not seeing anyone that would have a page on IMDB.  Clearly upset (and probably several thousands of dollars in the hole at this point), Amy and Katie jump in the hot tub.

Later, Haley Duff tweeted about naming a polish with her sister for Katie and it's been RTed over 3000 times already.  Ralina who?  The power of Twitter strikes again.

One commercial break later, and Katie is back in the arms of her beloved and ready to get back to work.  She arrives and Too $hort walks in (rapper) and Katie ends up rapping it up about boobs while making her booty clap there on the floor.

For half a second, I thought Tabatha Coffey was going to walk in and bust Katie's butt.

Back to Katie's home life and Walter has been nominated for a Grammy for his work on Kenny G's album. On top of her husband's success, it also means that Katie is going to the Grammys!  On her way to see Ralina, Katie calls the salon to hear that the number is disconnected.  A call to Becky shows that Becky was "waiting on authorization from Katie to pay the bill."  Really Becky?  I mean, don't you think you need to get authorization before the deadline so you don't get disconnected?

Ralina and Katie are not seeing eye to eye about Sundance.  Ralina thinks that everything went great, and Katie felt like it was a waste of time and money.  While they are sitting there talking, Katie gets two great text messages... "The power is out."  "The water is off."  Guess what?  Bills weren't paid.  Again.

Katie lets Becky off the hook for this $5,000 "mistake" of not paying bills only to get a nasty surprise when Becky texts Katie to see if they can talk.  When Katie decides to just call real quick, Becky quits.  (By the way, Katie has a lovely accent nail of silver with her other nails being blue.)  Outside, Katie breaks down again to Walter and like her Superman, he reassures her once again that things will be okay.

Up next week: It's Walter's big night at the Grammys and Katie isn't ready.  Girl needs a mani!  (Oh, and a new custom created dress.  Holla.)

Nail Files "The Queen of Nails" Breakdown

Image from TV Guide Network's Facebook Page
Tonight was the premier episode of Nail Files, the original reality series about the Painted Nail with Katie Cazorla.  I didn't think I was going to be home during the airing, so I set my DVR to "record series", and went off with my happy self.

I realized later that Katie was live tweeting during the show (PS: She's giving away a prize pack! What am I talk about, she's giving away a LOT of prize packs!  I won one the other day!).

Each show is 30 minutes long and it's not just the nails, but all of the awesomeness that Katie is going through as a small business owner in Los Angeles.

I am obsessed with most reality shows, hilariously enough - Jersey Shore is definitely included, and the producer, Sally Ann Salsano, created Nail Files.  Automatically, I knew I was really going to love it.

Okay, so the show starts with an f-bomb.  Can we say win?  Then Katie is rolling down the street in a Smart car.  When I was in Europe in 2005, I first saw the smart fortwo and I swore I was going to get one of those cars in the States.  Well, now it's 2011 and I drive a huge extended cab, extended bed Toyota Tundra (with towing package).  Sigh.  But I live in Texas and I own a metal building business, so that's my excuse (and random Krystal trivia).

Next we meet Nichole, Manager of the Painted Nail.  While her hair changes quite a bit in this episode, I just have to point out that I love the purple.  I think I counted about 4 different hair changes for her!

By the way, purple is ALL OVER the salon, mind you.  The walls, the curtains, the trim, the accent throws... ahh!  What's my favorite color?  OH YES, PURPLE.  Additionally, there is a clothing boutique next door and they do hair and makeup.  (And give away cocktails/wine with your mani-pedi... yum.)

Hold up, Debbie Gibson just walked in - and Katie drops "Holy shizballs."  More win.  Seriously.  Win.

So following in the wave of Deborah Lippmann, Katie is having celebrity help with her polishes.  While Deborah creates polishes with or inspired by celebrities and her polishes are the names of songs, Katie just flat out says "Hey, want to help me name this?"  (And thus Electric Blue was born which I don't currently see in her shop but I'll find out what's up, somehow.)

Ralina, Katie's Publicist calls to let Katie know that she's going to host the gifting suite at Sundance.  Becky, Katie's Assistant is put on a whirlwind of getting tickets, scheduling, etc etc - while Katie playfully chomps on chips in her ear.  Poor Becky ends up confused (I guess) because Katie ends up having to book her hotel herself and everyone is booked.  She does end up getting a condo (for a cool $2k, hah).  Also, can I mention that it's hilarious that above their heads is a sign that says "Keep Calm and Have a Cupcake"?  Becky also has to get Katie's 200 polishes picked up to fly out but Becky is having some math issues and a few more scheduling issues as far as Katie's displays are concerned.

On to Jessica.  Okay.  So while the laugh is SUPER annoying (and Katie's parody of it did have me laughing quite a bit), the fact that this girl didn't write anything down, and was promising things that this chick knows won't happen in a day (at least it would never happen where I live...), just screamed "THIS IS GOING TO GO WRONG."  Displays with 3D pop outs for SUNDANCE in 24 hours?  And then Jessica ends up with backwards displays?  Seriously?  How do you NOT know how a nail polish rack works?  I mean, granted, the first time I tried, I didn't get it either originally (just like Katie) but it took me a whole 5 seconds to say "Oh, I have it upside down, hah."  Not to mention that her lateness keeps Katie from her romantic dinner with her fiancé, Walter.

A little into Katie's home life, where you meet said Walter, a song writer and record producer.  (Another Krystal trivia moment: I used to be a radio personality.)  That studio is uh-mazing, by the way.  (And props to the lava lamp in the corner.)  While Walter is not able to go to Sundance with Katie, she is able to take Amy, one of her best friends.

Katie is having some issues with her signage.  Her labels are off - the hair is more yellow and the skin is a brown tint (a crack about Jersey Shore is made).  All her displays are backwards.  It's not 3-D like she asked.  But Walter puts everything into perspective and lets her know that only she knows it's a problem, and she just has to rock it.

I also work for a company in California, and driving in CA is absolutely scary for me.  Katie gets a driver who is driving on the wrong side of the road and misses their exit.  Katie calls 911 (no joke) because at this point, it's dangerous.  Swirling, not listening, missing exits - will they make in time?

This season looks amazing.  Drama, nail polish, and Katie is an absolute gem.  I can't wait to see what else is coming.

Nail Files airs on the TV Guide Network Tuesdays at 10/9c.

Nail Files Reality Show

A reality series about nails?  Yeah, count me in.  The fact that it's the same creator of Jersey Shore?  I might even get my other friends to watch!
