China Glaze Big Hair & Bubbly

Press Sample

Woo hoo! Another week is done and over with. Although I love my work, it's nice to hit Friday and be ready to relax. Do you have any big plans this weekend?

China Glaze Don't Be A Snowflake

Press Sample

Do you find yourself wearing "winter" colors in the spring? Because that was my motivation today with the above China Glaze polish.

China Glaze Queen of Sequins

Time for a rockstar manicure because it's Wednesday and I have exactly two months before my largest event of 2018 at work. So I pulled out a China Glaze polish from the winter 2017 The Glam Finale collection.

Cosmoprof North America 2017

Nothing To Disclose

Cosmoprof North America was a BLAST! On top of seeing some of my favorite bloggers, I also got to meet with some of my favorite brands, as well as meet some new ones! It's always a pleasure to head out to Las Vegas for a few days to see all things beauty.

China Glaze Warm Wishes

This past winter, China Glaze came out with the Seas and Greetings collection - a different take on the typical reds and greens holiday collection. The motivation was the warm winters in California where China Glaze is located. I was mixed on it because while I definitely wear polishes all year long, I feel like I was longing for my typical reds and greens during December so this collection just sat at my desk.

China Glaze Carnival Lights

Nothing To Disclose

I started my blog back in 2009 after falling in love with China Glaze polishes. That year, China Glaze put out a "Specialty" collection of 50 polishes. Now, the rumor was that it was originally supposed to be for the overseas/Europe market, but I was able to buy them all here in the USA through a stockist. And buy them I did. As I was moving my polishes into a cabinet over the weekend, I thought I was going to have to throw the above bottle, Carnival Lights away because it was pretty thick and gloopy in its bottle. But I decided to try some thinner and added a few BB balls and shook like crazy.

I started with a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote and used 3 coats of polish. Finally I topped it with Digital Nails Ain't Nobody Got Time For That. The polish definitely needs more thinner and shaking because it was still a little gloopy and the top coat failed to dry through the layers. After I did my photographs, I had to wash my hands, and my polish was able to come right off because it didn't dry through. Boo.

Carnival Lights is a baby pink tinted base with pink microglitter and rainbow reflective small circular glitter. It's a fun color - something pretty definitely as an accent nail but wasn't too overpowering as a full manicure.

I took this photo in the sun. As you can see, a base color coat would probably work best under here so you don't have to use as many coats of polish, and because it was still gloopy, it didn't dry smooth either. You can see the bumps on all nails. But I still adore it because well, rainbow reflective glitter.

This polish is long gone but you might find it here or there in supply stores gathering a little dust. Always make sure to store your polishes with tightly closed caps to keep evaporation down.

Best lil' Nail Show Texas 2016

Nothing To Disclose

Last month, the Best lil' Nail Show Texas kicked off in Humble, Texas - just north of Houston. I first got wind of the show on social media and found their Facebook page. I asked if I could cover the show as press, and they allowed me to. Now this was a Pro Only - Cash & Carry type show which meant you had to be a licensed professional to get in, but you could buy from any of the booths available and most were offering deep discounts on their products. As media, I got a black band (no jokes on being black listed please) which signified that I could not buy product. My wallet rejoiced, my fingers did not but that's the life of an unlicensed "slightly obsessed with nail polish" blogger sometimes. I have worked with pro-only brands here on PolishGalore but we could talk all day about that topic.

We live about 4 hours south of Houston, so we drove up the day before and spend the night in Houston. Humble is a straight shot north, very easy to get to. When I got there, I had a surprise right at the door!

A photo posted by PolishGalore (@polishgalore) on

Yep that's Andrea from Chickettes and Kim from Ten Little Canvases! I met Andrea at Cosmoprof back in 2014 but this was my first time meeting Kim, who lives in Texas! It's always nice to put real faces to the blog.

We were allowed to go in the back door (and skip the crazy long line!) which opened directly to one of my favorites, CND! Y'all know that I have some love for Jan Arnold - she's always been so nice to me, despite the fact that I'm not a licensed professional. But what I was really excited about was the ridiculously crazy display of Creative Play.
That's 80 shades of brand new goodness - think of it as the little sister to Shellac. So you have Big Sister Shellac... 14 days wear, cure with a lamp, soak off. Then you have middle sister Vinylux - 7 days wear, air cure with sunlight, remove with polish remover. This is little sister Creative Play - less than weekly wear, good for retail, no curing, great for changing your polish every few days. Now, don't think that it ONLY lasts a few days - it does last as well as you keep it, but the price point is such that you can buy many bottles at once. The formula is also a little different, but more on that because I got some straight from CND (not from the show!) to play with. The bottom row also has CND's Creative Play Base Coat and Top Coat.

Drool - just shelves of Vinylux to play in.

These were the looks created with the CND Summer 2016 Flirtation collection.

Jan Arnold's look for the show created with AthenA Rocks. The hand showing off the look is from Heather Davis, CND Educator - Heather and Shelena Robinson (another CND Educator) created this look dubbed a #Janicure. More on what Heather had in another blog posting.

So the big excitement at the show was CND's #CutTheCord - they had over 800 lamps ready to give away and it went pretty well. Of course, some people cheated the system, and were caught, but overall it was very civil and people behaved. Now, I assumed this is in response to the Preen.me incident that happened... If you don't know what I'm talking about, Manic Talons had a very extensive write up here.

Being that this was a Pro-Only, Cash & Carry show, there was a lot of things that I wasn't able to fully partake in. Some of the booths were ridiculously busy, and didn't have a media representative to talk to me. Other booths didn't really know how to work around me, as they were helping paying clients. This is much different than Cosmoprof North America - which is a business to business show, no purchasing (although that in itself has evolved too), and media plays a larger role. I hate that I didn't get to talk to some of the bigger brands there like Tammy Taylor or ORLY, but it helps me with a game plan for 2017, if I'm able to return.

I did try to start at the front of the show, and make my way down the aisles. Around 1100 people showed up to the ballroom on Sunday - the other show days were filled with technical classes for the licensed professionals, which from what I can see on Instagram, were amazing.

At the front of the show was amazing nail creations in a contest sponsored by 3D Fanatics - a group of Licensed Nail Technicians on Facebook who share their love of 3D Nail Art, founded by Nail Tech Kimberly Harr who was on site judging the creations. The prompt "Stars of Texas" was given, and there were two types of entries - OT were for those who had won 1st Place in the past and GH were the newbies who may have won other places in competitions but never first. I really liked this set about Miranda Lambert which ended up winning 1st Place in the GH (Green Horn) category.

SO SMALL WORLD MADE SMALLER. This set belongs to fellow blogger & licensed tech Amber Dunson from AmberDidIt! Amber and I have a mutual friend - Destany from Confessions of a Sarcastic Mom - and Amber found me as I was getting ready to leave the show so we had to take a photo.

The next booth had some celebrities up in the house - don't you dare mess with these nails! It's the Real Nail Qweenz of Texas. These ladies were Fierce, but also very down to earth and lovely. Lena Cole (top), Edith Graham (middle two) and Ayanna Williams gracefully posed for photos for me.

Next on my journey was Bodipure. These single use, waterless, all in one and one time use gloves and socks are enriched with anti-fungal Copaiba Oil, strengthening Keratin, Anti-aging Vitamin E, hydrating Urea and UV protection with Lipex PreAct. They are also "touch screen friendly" so in the salon, you're able to still use your iPhone while wearing the gloves. I think this would be a great product for my nail technician to use because it's a small expense but offers clients a large upgrade in their service.

I also got to see Exclusive Nail Couture by Max Estrada, a professional line of products ranging from gel, powders, removers, lamps, accessories, and equipment. For starters, it's a lot of pink up front, but there's some really neat elements to it as well like the Cotton Candy scented Monomer. This was a pretty busy booth when I went by it but was able to watch a demonstration of the gel - it's a 1 coat system but to show how effective the 1 coat was, 2 coats was used to show that the opacity really was there with just the 1st coat.

At the front doors, I spied Social Claws who had an super blinged out amazing display of SUGAR - these ridiculously sparkly conflict-free nano crystal caviar. She had 3 lab-grown colors available at the show (and on her website) - Pink Aurora, Black Star and White Fire. They are reusable, cleanable, and shine super bright. It was hard to get the bling on camera - seriously. Best part of their company for me? She brings awareness on her Instagram to adoptable animals.

At the next aisle, I was able to speak to proTIPCLIPS, an easy removal system for all types of nail enhancements. Now the big plus here is that the stainless steel and high grade plastic can be cleaned in an autoclave, which is required by some states for salons to use for sanitation of equipment. Kick the foil system to the curb. Now, y'all know I love my Steam Off for my nails, but I couldn't use it on toes so this is where proTIPCLIPS really sold me - there's a set for nails and a separate set for toes that are slimmer and shorter. I know of a few people who would buy these without a second thought. I'm also a sucker for a story and the master nail tech, educator and veteran salon owner, Angela Blaisdell created this product after going through hundreds of dollars in foil wraps for her clients. She tested the final product for over a year before selling to the public and she was busy every time I walked by.

I had a fan girl moment at Crystal Ninja. I've been drooling over Kellie's items since I saw her at Cosmoprof North America last year and she handed me her flip book of products. She is a Swarovski Authorized Instructor and I'm a Swarovski Christmas Ornament Super Fan and just lover of all things sparkly. (Seriously, I'm only missing 3 of the original ornaments but have the rest carefully stored in my house.) I want to buy her Crystal Katana (Mixed Media Pick Up Tool) for my crafty items here at home but as a nail tech? Man, I'm not sure I could do crystal, rhinestone, gemstone placement without one.

I swiveled around the aisle to see Dazzle Dry in action doing a manicure on a woman who looked familiar but I couldn't place her right off.

A photo posted by PolishGalore (@polishgalore) on
No big deal, just the NAILS Magazine publisher, Michelle Mullen. But I didn't know that at the time - I started chatting with her and Dazzle Dry about bloggers which led into well, another blog post to come, but overall it was one of those chance meetings where you're just on cloud 9 because you're talking to awesome people about awesome stuff and AWESOME. (Yes, I'm a child of the 80s and 90s,)

So Dazzle Dry - I've seen it advertised in NAILS magazine but I haven't really seen the product before. Turns out it's a very salon prestigious company, with 196 core and 4 seasonal collections (6 piece sets). The shimmers are made with pigments because this is a 6 free, non-yellowing, vegan, no animal testing, YOU NAME IT line. For Dazzle Dry, it's all about science, quality control, and care - care for the product, care for the consumer, care for the earth. They have a great lemongrass remover enhanced with essential oils but wait, there's also a non-acetone version called Vivo'Sol that has spearmint and eucalyptus oils. Their Nail Prep is not dehydrating. They say their top coat is 5 minutes to totally dry. I can literally go on and on.

But what really had me excited were these Mini Kits that were available. A great stocking stuffer, Secret Santa, just all around great gift for $20 - the Mini Kit has a Nail Prep, Base Coat, Top Coat and a color. More on that to come.

Dazzle Dry is committed to their product and while they sell to consumers on their website (YAY) and wholesale to salons and spas, you're not going to see this end up in your local drugstore or other brick and mortar store. I have a love/hate with stores because that means you have to find one to go into, but I also like holding product in my hand - like this polish.
I totally didn't get the name of this polish written down and I love it but looking on their website, I can't tell what color it is. Monitors only reflect so much, you know?

Speaking of NAILS Magazine, I was so happy to run into Sigourney Nunez, Associate Editor. I met her a few years ago, before she got her professional license, but just hadn't had a chance since to see her. It's always so much fun to run into people who just love nails.

I was able to stop at Essie as well and talk to Gino Trunzo, Director of Education. He did two amazing things - one, he introduced me to the new Apricot Cuticle Peel, which I'm now obsessed with and want to buy immediately. And secondly, he let me try a top secret product which isn't launching for a couple of months. Now, I know that other publications have been given the green light to talk about this delightfully twisted product, but I have not, so sorry PolishGalore readers - you're kept in the dark for now until I'm given the go. Just let me say that Gino was so proud of it - 3 years in the making he said, and I was pretty happy with it too.

I also got to check out the 1000th Essie Shade from the 2016 Shimmer Brights Collection called "Aim To Misbehave". This yellow has a shimmer in it to make it more opaque (because if you read this blog, you know how much I hate yellow because it's normally a streaky mess). I may have to check it out for opaque testing.

I stopped by China Glaze next and you KNOW they are my first love in polish but unfortunately everything was just lined up for selling and no one was really available to talk.

Summer Favorites which still need to come home with me.

Both EverGlaze and Gelaze were available for purchase as well.

While there was still more show going on, we had to head back home and I was starting to get a nasty sinus infection, so I had to say goodbye and head out the doors. Overall, I enjoyed the show and meeting up with the different brands that I was able to, and I look forward to seeing more from the Best lil' Nail Show Texas in 2017!

China Glaze Drink Up Witches

Nothing To Disclose

Today I have a wickedly good green for you - from the Ghouls' Night Out collection from China Glaze, it's Drink Up Witches which is such a great pun. This neon green polish leans more yellow green but thankfully, no staining. I cannot deal with stainers right now.

I used a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote, 3 coats of polish and finished with Glisten & Glow H K Girl top coat. Now neons are normally matte by nature, but this polish seemed shiny even without the top coat. I added it for protection of course. As for the formula, it was a little thin, and that's why I needed 3 coats and then I had to be sure not to bubble it up on the nail, as the formula wanted to run down the brush and glob on. China Glaze can be hit or miss on some of their formulas and this was definitely a watery one.

I did not use a white base coat on this polish but just LOOK and see how it glows! I'm a little messy - my right hand is in a wrist brace for now, so polishing is a little difficult, but you can always clean up with some polish remover and a small brush. I'm still using my trusty e.l.f. "concealer" brush that I got for $1, but I can't seem to find it in stores anymore so I hope it lasts a good long while. This one has lasted over a year. Back to the polish - it's just eye searing greatness.

China Glaze About Layin' Out

Nothing To Disclose

When I saw the Spring 2016 China Glaze collection called House of Colour, I made the joke that it should have been Haus of Colour but no one really laughed with me. Such is this acetone life. I decided to get the whole collection because China Glaze was my first love after all and today, I wanted a happy creme to wear. Without further delay, here is About Layin' Out, a salmon pink creme.

I used a base of Duri Rejuvacote, 2 coats of polish and finished with Glisten & Glow H K Girl top coat. The formula was interesting - the first coat was almost like a squishy jelly and I had to wipe the brush a few times because polish was up into the neck of the brush. The second coat was more like a marshmallow dropping on my nails. It's funny because it all evened out before the top coat except that I probably should have done one more coat because I most definitely have visible nail line.

So you can't totally see the VNL but in indirect light, I see it on my middle and ring fingers. It also may be that I'm not used to this length of nails anymore. I used to be Lady Long Fingers, but it's been all Nancy Nubbins since I started my new job. Either way, I really do like this color and I really want to play with it and some white dots ala Casual Contrast.

Did you pick up any colors from this collection? It seemed like such a weird bunch of polishes, and I have a WHOLE box here of polishes to wade through. Any you'd like to see swatched soon?

China Glaze The Heat Is On

Press Sample

Yay for Saturday! How are you enjoying the series so far? When it came time for me to pick my China Glaze (because you know I had to use a China Glaze!)... let's just say I had way too many reds and pinks to choose from. I mean yes, China Glaze does have a good rainbow of color but holy cow... so many reds! Today is The Heat Is On from the Summer 2015 Desert Escape collection. This was that weird collection that was only available in open stock at a website called Lock And Mane, nail kits were going to be at Sally's and Ulta was like "Nope, we aren't doing anything with this."

I used a base of Duri Rejuvacote, 2 coats of polish and finished with Glisten & Glow H K Girl top coat.

So The Heat Is On is this tomato red almost jelly like polish. I was really surprised by it at first. The formula was super thin and runny - I gave in and just flooded my cuticles so I could clean up later. Not my favorite formula, but when I really like a color, I'll deal with more time in clean up.

You can see a bit of visible nail line on my middle finger so I may have needed 3 coats. Also my ring finger cuticle needs some serious attention. Right now I have oil on and I'm going to try and see my manicurist before the weekend's over because hey - we have another week of Valentine's to go through!

But back to the polish. this is pretty but the formula makes me mad. I prefer more of a thick creme that can be applied in 2 thin coats versus a runny thin formula that needs 2-3 coats. This red also has a lot of orange in it, which isn't my favorite but it's still doable.

China Glaze Better Not Pout

Nothing To Disclose

So if you didn't know, China Glaze was my first love with nail polishes. I started with the Summer Daze collection back in Summer 2009 and just went wild. In fact, this blog was almost called "China Glaze Galore" until a dear friend advised against it. Now, one thing I love/hate about China Glaze is they put out some massive big collections each year, and a lot of them. It's a lot to keep up with! The Holiday 2015 Cheers! collection is one of those massive collections with 12 lacquers ranging from pearls, to cremes, shimmers, and of course, glitter. Today I have Better Not Pout, a berry pearl.

I used a base of Duri Rejuvacote, 3 thin coats of polish, and finished with Glisten & Glow H K Girl top coat. Formula was a little thin so I had to be careful not to glob the polish on and take my time instead. I still ended up getting some on my cuticles because I have to retrain myself with the China Glaze brush which is round and thin vs flat and wide.

Okay, seriously? Look how pretty this is. Now originally, I thought this was a shimmer but there's not really any shimmer inside - it's more of a pearl like their PR has suggested but thankfully there's no crazy pearl brush strokes. That's the #1 reason why I hate pearls normally... the brush strokes tend to look like Grandma pulled out a streaky polish from the 70s. But nope! China Glaze somehow figured out how to have the pearl consistency without the gross brush strokes. I'm glad I bought this polish and I can see myself using it throughout the year, not just during the holidays.

China Glaze Wanderlust

Press Sample

With a pep in my step and a renewed sense of blogging, I decided today to grab China Glaze Wanderlust from the Spring 2015 Road Trip Collection. This light lavender/baby pink color has this really pretty rose shimmer that hits just when the sun is right.

I used a base coat of Duri Rejuvacote, 2 coats of polish and finished with Glisten & Glow H K Girl top coat. This polish is a little thin and I did have some pooling in my cuticles, but a clean up brush and acetone fixes it.

Here in my light box, you can see the base lavender/pinky color but very little of the shimmer. This is a great office neutral and very close to the Rose Quartz color of the year. I think this would be a really pretty base for some nail art!

I was able to get a photo in the sun as well. Here you can see the shimmer both in the bottle and on my nail. It's subtle and dreamy... like wanderlust, right? ;]

I didn't think I'd originally like this color but it's growing on me.

PolishGalore: Nails In Real Life

Press Sample

2015 has been really crazy, really scary, and really awesome all at the same time. I had a baby, I quit a really good job but for an even BETTER job, and I've been really busy on the home front. I'm still attempting to balance home, work, and fun but while I'm figuring that one out, I wanted to show you a few "nails in real life" - polishes that I didn't review for the blog but I actually wore. Some were press samples (which is why I've labeled this post as such) but some I bought myself. I tend to post more to Instagram when it's quick snapshots like this but now I hear that even Instagram is limiting what people see (thanks Facebook for buying Instagram and applying the same 'pay for play' business model).

In July, I went to Cosmoprof North America for less than 24 hours. Not sure that I will ever put my body through that again, but it was still fun. I really wanted something flashy so I knew I was going to wear ILNP "Mega (X)" from the Summer 2015 collection but I wanted some base creme to layer it over, so I went with Love, Angeline "Did You Say Peppercorn?!" which is a matte grey creme.  Add 2 coats of "Mega (X)" and we were in business.

After Cosmoprof I needed something nice but neutral for my job interview so I went with ILNP "Long Walks" from the Summer 2015 collection. It's a dusty purple/taupe with a little bit of bronze shimmer - nothing too flashy but still had something to keep me interested.

A photo posted by PolishGalore (@polishgalore) on

After my neutral color, I wanted something flashy, so I grabbed F.U.N. "Goodness Of The Dawn" from the Summer 2015 collection. Only 2 coats and removal wasn't too terrible despite the glitter overload.

A photo posted by PolishGalore (@polishgalore) on

So I didn't get to see any of my Cosmoprof beauties for a few days because I had to have them shipped to me (THANK YOU SO MUCH THE DAILY NAIL!) but one that wowed me was Fair Maiden Polish - "Just a Mirage". I already love all things purple and holo but this was a nice plum with red base and only 2 coats.

After getting my new job, I knew I wanted to start off with some color. I blindly picked China Glaze "I Brake For Colour" from the Spring 2015 Road Trip collection. I felt like I wimped out a bit by not going crazy neon holo nuts but I didn't want anyone to think I was too crazy (yet).

My second week of work seemed to be a bit more demanding on my hands, so I opted for Gelish MINI "From Rodeo to Rodeo Drive" from the Fall 2015 Urban Cowgirl collection. It reminded me a little of ILNP "Long Walks" minus the bronze shimmer. This was only 2 coats but I should have used 3.

Then I snapped a few nails so I decided to cut them down to super nubbins - absolutely no free edge. I forgot how liberating they can be, especially when typing! To show off, I used ILNP "Missed Calls" which is a fantastic charcoal black holo that I am obsessed with.

Next I decided to go with Colors by Llarowe "As Rome Burned" from the August 2015 A Box, Indied collection. I seriously want to wear this all the time. NO staining either which is something I was really worried about. Only 2 coats but it did dry matte so I needed a good top coat to bring out the shine.

I decided to go for another Gelish MINI after that - this is "Brights Have More Fun". I was nervous about trying a neon without a white base coat, but you can see it did pretty well on its own.

A photo posted by PolishGalore (@polishgalore) on

Two weeks later and my nubs got out of control as well as my cuticles. I also tend to get hangnails on my index and middle fingers and I really try to leave them alone. But to feel pretty, I put on Glam Polish "Bohemian Rhapsody".

But then I decided to go dark blue to match my outfit when we were headed to a wedding. This is ILNP "After Midnight" from the Fall 2015 Collection.

Just one day later, I was moving to ILNP "Money Bin" to coordinate with the La Palmera #ReadySetGold Fashion Show that I attended.

Just a short time later, I was heading to Florida for training at my new job. I was super excited to go on a trip so I decided to bring a little ILNP with me. This is "Walking Home" and the purple holo is SO in your face. I was obsessed.

A photo posted by PolishGalore (@polishgalore) on

Despite owning tons of ILNP, I hadn't worn any of the multichrome crazy polishes yet so I decided I was going to wear ILNP "Cameo". I ended up going almost a whole week in this polish and couldn't stop playing with the color shift from purple to green to gold. Loved it!

Last week, a friend was eloping, so a bunch of us did manis to surprise her. I wanted something red and holo-y so I used both Morgan Taylor "Ruby Two-Shoes" with Starrily "Poisoned Apple" for this beautiful combination.

And now on my hands I have Polished by KPT "No Makeup Needed" which is a nude holo. After all the red and purple I had been wearing, I felt like wearing something a little neutral. I'm on Day 5 of this mani and while I need to remove it before Saturday (family photos!), it's held up very well.

A photo posted by PolishGalore (@polishgalore) on

And there you have it! That's been my "Nails In Real Life" and while I wished I had properly photographed and written a review for the blog, I'm glad that I at least documented them on Instagram. Do you have any favorites from what I wore?
