FTC Updates to Disclosure Regulations

Image Courtesy of 15 Minute Beauty Fanatic

Because nothing is simple anymore.

The FTC has decided to update its Disclosure Regulations in regards to the dot com'ers. You are more than welcome to read the 50+ page PDF here.

The gist is that the FTC wants to make sure that when I got something for free, then YOU KNOW I GOT IT FREE.  They also don't want me to use an affiliate link without you realizing HEY, IF YOU CLICK HERE AND BUY SOMETHING, I WILL GET SOMETHING IN RETURN. (For the record, the ONLY affiliate link on PolishGalore is my Julep Maven subscription link in the blog posting here.)

Any other links on PolishGalore are just straight from Google, nothing hidden, nothing that will give me a kick back, nada.

Any time I use a product that was given to me by the company or the public relations firm that represents the company, you'll see a disclosure at the bottom of that blog posting about it. You can also read it on my Legals posting here or on my About Me page here.  Additionally, my spreadsheet has every Press Sample listed as "PR" if it was indeed a press sample bottle.

NEW! Now after the product picture that I post, you will see one of the two following buttons.

Clicking on either button will take you to my legals page.  Many thanks to 15 Minute Beauty Fanatic. Note: You will only see the actual button on my website. The CSS will not show up on mobile or in an RSS reader although the link and wording will.

A few of the lovely women from the Beauty Blog Coalition have also written about this matter. I've included them below and will keep updating this blog post as more of us write about the issue.

      Stealing is not fun

There has been a rash of websites popping up using other bloggers' pictures and in some cases, their own blogs. I thought I was slightly immune because I'm still new to the game, but I'm not a spring chicken anymore.

Please do feel free to report these posts as well - here's the ones of mine that I know (and have reported) so far.

Again, I did NOT authorize users taking my images and/or blog postings.

      Readers Poll!

Currently, PolishGalore is ad-free.  This was more of a lazy decision, because I didn't want to worry about coding of Ad-Sense or having to bill customers, but as any blogger knows - it costs money to run a blog.  I do buy a lot of product myself, and then there's my hosting domain and package, the supplies I buy that help with blogging (storage racks, not like - computer software), not to mention just the time I take to blog.

However, today, I got an email from an interested company (not beauty related, but nothing pornographic, which is an absolute no for me) that would like to have a text link from their company on my blog.  Because I know I'd be nothing without my readers, I'd like to ask your opinion!  I'll run this poll for a week.

      Legals

I will fully disclose any information as per the FTC's Endorsement Guidelines that were put into place on December 1, 2009.

I am not a professional nail tech or have formal training in nail care.  I'm only a nail polish addict, and any reviews made on this blog are only in my opinion unless stated otherwise.
